Wellness Evaluation for Weight Management

This Wellness Evaluation looks at Daily Diet and Lifestyle and how that affects our weight and body shape. This information is especially important for athletes who want to optimise their performance. Intense physical training programmes will not compensate for poor performance caused by poor nutrition. For most people the Wellness Evaluation is a unique revelation of the benefits of starting a personalised nutrition programme.

The Wellness Evaluation - Outline & Outcomes

A Wellness Evaluation is essential to healthy weight management and sports performance.

The Wellness Evaluation includes the following elements:-

  • Diet & Lifestyle Questionnaire.
  • Electronic Body Composition Analysis
  • Personal Daily Protein Estimate.
  • Personalised nutrition programme recommendation.

Understanding Our Bodies

Electronic Body Composition Analysis helps us understand how our bodies work.

By tracking our body composition we are able measure scientifically how balanced our diet is.

People who are overweight tend to have a small muscle mass, high body fat, and slow metabolism compared with those of healthy weight. It is therefore most important to provide the body with the essential nutrition that increase muscle mass, speeds up metabolism and therefore burns fat.

Tanita Computerised Body Composition Analysis

Wellness Evaluation includes an assessment using a Tanita BC-545 Body Composition Monitor. The manufacturers, Tanita, claim accuracy of 96-98%. It not only provides comprehensive body composition analysis, but also enables accurate monitoring of progress whilst on a Herbalife Weight Management programme.

The Tanita Body Composition Monitor helps your Wellness Coach to help you achieve healthy weightloss or optimised sports performance.

Know Your Personal Daily Protein Requirement

A Wellness Evaluation includes calculating your daily protein requirement.

Your protein estimate calculation is based on your BMI.

If you know your Height and Weight you can find out your daily personal protein requirement here, Personal Daily Protein Estimate.

Most people are eating too many carbs and sugars and not enough protein. This is also an indication that that there may be a lack of vitamins, minerals and trace element in the diet, which can result in poor health and fatigue.

A deficiency in Vitamin B12 can cause symptoms which may be incorrectly diagnosed as associated with serious illnesses. This condition is called Pernicious Anemia.

Obesity and being overweight are indicators of nutrition deficiency and excess at several levels. It is the result of not only eating too much of certain foods, but eating too little of others.

People who are overweight tend to eat excessive amounts of carbohydrates, fats, and sugars, and too little of protein, fibre, and fruit and vegetables. A diet high in carbohydrates and sugars puts people at a high risk of Diabetes

Protein Controls Weight Management

Protein is one of the main nutrients that controls weight management, because protein repairs and builds muscle. It is muscle that burns body fat. People who are overweight tend to show loss of muscle mass and excess bodyfat, because of the excessive intake of carbohydrates and sugars and insufficient protein.

Protein Builds Muscle - Burns Fat

In order to achieve healthy weightloss it is necessary to build muscle to burn fat. The Protein Estimator calculates the daily amount of protein required. In our experience, most people who are overweight are getting on average 50% or less of the daily protein that they require. This results in muscle fatigue, weight-gain, and lack of resources for the body to repair and maintain itself. The result is a higher risk of disease.

As a result of this Evaluation you will be able to:-

  • Identify your personal nutrition requirements.
  • Receive a personal nutrition programme.
  • Identify possible food intolerances.
  • Make changes in diet & lifestyle that will promote health.
  • Achieve a healthy lifestyle & enjoy more energy & a pleasing body shape.

Weight Management Goals

On our personalised weight management programme clients who are overweight can expect to lose 10-14lbs per month, each month, until they reach their ideal weight. Most importantly they become healthier not just slimmer, and therefore reduce the risk of serious illness and disease.

Sports Performance Goals

(Examples below relate to Football and Rugby but the principles apply to all sports activities that require speed, endurance, and fast recovery from exertion and injury).

The consequence of poor nutrition during exercise and during rugby matches can include the following :-

1. poor oxygenation of muscles resulting in breathlesness and cramp.

2. slow recovery from injury

3. slower post-match recovery and match readiness.

4. muscle fatigue because muscles go catabolic (they digest themselves).

5. poor concentration during a match leading to strategic errors of judgement.

6. slower reaction times when passing and receiving the ball.

7. lower resistance to viral and bacterial infections.

8. higher risk of preventable illness and disease which is directly related to poor nutrition.

The Benefits of personalised and optimised nutrition include:-

1. improved oxygenation of muscles reduces risk of cramp and improves breathing.

2. faster recovery from injury.

3. faster post match recovery and match readiness.

4. muscles perform better with reduced deterioration during sports activity.

5. mental alertness and improved concentration contributing to faster and better decision making during a game.

6. better reaction times when passing the ball.

7. higher resistance to bacterial and viral infections.

8. lower risk of preventable illness and disease as a direct benefit of optimised nutrition.

Optmised Nutrition Reduces The Risk of Serious Illness

Good health is the main objective of our nutrition programmes. The harsh reality is that the World Health Report shows that over 70% of visits to doctors surgeries are directly associated with nutritional deficiency, and 50% of cancers could be prevented by following a proven nutrition programme.
